Industry of the Ordinary are a Chicago-based art collective founded in 2004.
Industry of the Ordinary celebrate and investigate the quotidian. Working across media — installation, sculpture, performance, photography, text – and through social engagement, we examine the roles of labor, identity, belief and value in everyday life. Our work invites reflection on the overlooked and the familiar, revealing complexity, contradiction, and meaning in the ordinary. Balancing humor with sincerity, and irony with pathos, we aim to challenge assumptions about what is worthy of artistic attention. We believe that art should be accessible, provocative, and rooted in the shared experiences of public life.
